The Smith Family Challenge

In 2026, I worked with the team at The Smith Family to design and roll out new assets for their annual Smith Family Challenge. We worked together to create Challenge T-Shirts and a Recruitment Kit.

In this challenge, participants hike, bike and kayak over 100km in 2 days to raise money for The Smith Family charity, helping alleviate the impact of poverty in the education of kids across Australia. As a Smith Family recipient myself for many years, this project was extremely close to my heart and a wonderfully fulfilling project to be a part of.

To create the T-Shirt design, working with the Challenge Team at The Smith Family, I created several iterations of possible concepts for their team and board to choose from, featuring stylised graphics of mountains, compasses, kayaks, and other relevant active gear. Key visual elements included both The Smith Family and The Smith Family Challenge logos, and the iconic blue, white and red colour palette.

Together we landed on this down-to-earth 3-panel design that highlights the exciting and active nature of the event.

Final Design for The Smith Family Challenge Shirt 2026

To create the Recruitment Kit, I worked with The Smith Family team to bring together supplied materials and relevant copy into a clean and on-brand kit design to entice new recruits to sign up for the Challenge! This kit needed to be high-energy and friendly to match the familiar and joyful branding of The Smith Family while also communicating key information to stakeholders. The final design is friendly and clean, maintaining a consistent brand voice throughout the entire document and presenting key information in a visually engaging way. The document was prepared for both digital and print mediums.
