For most of the show, my goal was to create a cool-toned and unnervingly bland lighting state that would hold the tension in the air as the pair argued. Undercut with occasional purposeful LED flickering baked into the program and executed in coordination with Jakob Schuster’s sound design, this plain and all-illuminating state made up the majority of the show. For I Thought You Said, I fulfilled the roles of Lighting Designer and Electrician. This time, I utilised a lot more haze as the smaller theatre space needed some assistance pulling off the same visual effects the director wanted from the larger pros-arch in the Union. Focus - Neurodegenerative Diseases I think that in the grand scheme of diseases, neurodegeneration is widely regarded as one of the scariest. Patients are faced with the possibility of losing all the memories that made them who they are. These things manifest in degrees. Some patients experience the fear and discomfort that comes with forgetting while others merely live in the calmness of unknowing. I think that dichotomy was something I wanted this piece to explore. Because of the focus on friendliness and accessibility, the shape language of the logo is very rounded and curved. This gives the logo a childish shape, keeping it friendly and playful rather than serious or corporate. Early on, it was evident there was a significant relationship between the first ‘C’s in both ‘Circus’ and ‘City’ and initial attempts saw the emphasis placed on the curves in the ‘C’s letterform.
