Chicago
When You’re Good to Mama
In August of 2025, I worked with Ormond College Students’ Club to create the lighting design for their performance of Chicago by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse. This show was performed in the Union Theatre at The University of Melbourne
For this lighting design, the directorial team wanted to work with shadow play, creating a curtain in centre-stage behind which actors could leave, enter, and perform artistic or implied background action. I worked with the set team and directorial team to create the desired effect, aiming a light from below the back rostra to create giant, oversized silhouettes, adding an impressive and commanding aura to the stage whenever the effect was employed.
For Chicago, I fulfilled the roles of Lighting Designer, Operator and Electrician.
This show was programmed on a ETC ION XE Lighting Console in a 398-seat pros-arch theatre.
